Mackenzie
House is superbly situated on a spacious corner at the heart of
the Artists’ Town
of Kirkcudbright, in the Dumfries & Galloway area on the southwest
coast of Scotland. This historically listed building offers splendid
views of MacLellan’s
Castle located across the street, the fishing fleet in the harbour
and the dramatic tidal changes of the River Dee. The property, holiday
home of an artist and architect, has been in the same family for
three generations.
The light-filled, airy rooms are warm, comfortable and full of character. Traditional and contemporary art adorns the walls. The kitchen is equipped to a very high standard and one of the two bathrooms has a large walk-in, glass-walled shower which supplements an antique claw-foot tub. A unique south facing walled garden offers a quiet sunny place to relax. Traditional shops, good restaurants, pubs and cafes are just around the corner. Stroll to art galleries, book and antique stores, museums, library, harbour, marina, and the town’s recreational facilities. Short drives take you to lovely sandy beaches, historic gardens, several castles and abbey ruins, golf courses, wildlife parks and hiking trails along the spectacular coastline and into the nearby hills and mountains. |
